Livestream: new concept arts, newest devs, & more!

Now that the successful Kickstarter has ended, Intrepid Studios will be transitioning to a twice-monthly live stream schedule on Twitch. Today was the first live stream for the month of June. Next live stream will be on:

Intrepid Studio Video Tour

During today’s live stream Steven gave us a video tour of Intrepid Studios HQ where the team had ordered some ice cream and were working on some art assets such as rocks and a new mountain zone. Steven also shared that there will be some new environmental artist being tested on for potential employees at Intrepid Studios. Steven then walked over to Tristan who was prototyping a new environment some sort of Volcanic area with hot springs, purple trees, and what looks like acid water/green water.

One of the new members of the team Kevin Mcpherson was working on some actor spawners as well as control rods. Showing off the AI patrol paths and group spawners which could also be used for objects just as trees etc. These are things that will be necessary for the nodes and its dynamic spawning system.

Updates for the month of June

  1. Kickstarter started to push out emails and things to allow connecting Kickstarter pledges to the Ashes of Creation website.
  2. The second round of pledges on the website will be starting soon.
  3. Intrepid Studios will be at PAX West/Prime, will have a “pretty rad setup”.
    • Will have people with the ability to play a demo of the game
    • More information next QnA.

Forum Q&A

  1. How important to a nodes economy will the caravan system be?

    • Crucial! the answer to that is crucial.
      • Not just to the economy, but for the developing of the city as well
      • Maintaining / Providing supplies for the city growth
      • Certain types of buildings will require different kinds of caravans
        • Temple buildings might require caravans from Divine nodes, for example.
      • Overall Really important.
  2. Will there be any mountain terrain, mountain caves, maybe even a mountain road?

    • Yes, extremely diverse range of environments, climates
      • Arid to wet
      • Low to high
      • Fantasy elements included
        • leaning towards a high fantasy game world
  3. When do players get to choose their class/subclass before you enter the game or while you progress?

    • Likely going to choose a Primary class before you enter the game.
    • The secondary will be during gameplay.
  4. Can you have different characters on different servers or are they server locked?

    • Accounts are not server locked.
    • will have the ability to create characters on different servers
      • No interaction between servers.
  5. What is the relationship between guild halls and castles?

    • Castles and guild halls are two distinct, separate thing.
    • Castles are a static number of castles that exist within the world. 
      • Contained battlegrounds once per month
      • Guild’s will fight for control of the castle
      • Very specific places  
    • Guild halls are something different.
      • Combined effort of members within the guild
      • Create a design within a node
      • No dominance
  6. Will there be humanoid races other than the player races?

    • Yes, definitely some plans for this that are related to the starting races.
  7. What can we expect to see from healing and support spells?

    • There are so many support skills the support type skills are going to vary.
      • Support for survivability, damage, ability to crit, mana regen.
      • Typical expectation for support skills.
    • Active support skills, not just clicking on spells in your action bars.
      • Somewhere in the front lines making decisions on how and when to apply buffs.
    • Group heals, spot healing, HoTs, and the standard healing abilities.
      • Will be able to spec out how you do your healing depending on a subclass.
    • Most important thing is that they are actively involved.
  8. Is there going to be class specific armor?

    • Not the plan currently
    • Certain item builds will be optimal for certain roles.
  9. Will there be something similar to unique items?

    • Yes, absolutely
    • Drives home the philosophy for things that are legendary, require a lot of effort, dedication to get, not everyone can obtain them.
      • The story of how you get them should be legendary as well.
  10. What are your thoughts on support sites, like WoWs armory system?

    • We discussed how those features would be nice to include on the Ashes of Creation website.
      • Don’t want to give people access to that information that the players haven’t already discovered in-game.
      • Its all about the discovery in Ashes of Creation.
  11. Will breeding be part of the artisan/crafting trees?

    • Yes, it’s part of the artisan trees.
      • Animal Husbandry
        • Processing tree.
  12. For those of us who have just found out about the game, will there be a way to pledge in?

    • June 20th for new pledges in the Ashes of Creation website.
  13. What is the Wand of Many Things?

    • Wand of Many Things comes from different types of  tabletop RPG
      • Wand of Wonders, Deck of Many Things inspired.

    • Dance with your fellow backers
    • Unique dance for only Kickstarter & Website backers.
    • Phoenix Polka is a tentative name.

    • Static Housing & Freehold decorations
    • Tables, chairs, sofa, paintings, etc.
    • Themed for Kickstarter backers
    • Phoenix Initiative idea 
  3. Portable Party
    • Small cooldown
    • Usable in world that throws up fireworks, confetti, basically a party in a box.
  4. Backer Only UI Theme
    • There will be different skins for the UI
    • This will offer Backer only UI skin
  5. Host a Backer Unique Parlor Game
    • Each race will have their own Parlor Game
    • Although, this Parlor Game will only be able to be initiated by the backers
    • Others, not backers, can still play just not start the Parlor Game
  6. Backer Only Ship Skin
    • “The Intrepid” ship skin
    • Enhanced Ship Expansion including new classes of ships
    • Individually sized ship all the way up to a large raid sized ship/Capital ship
    • Intrepid will be an Individually class ship that will stand out from other ships
  7. Freehold Personal Statue
    • Statue that you can place on your Freehold
    • Will show your character in statue form
    • Inner tubes are not confirmed atm
  8. Wand of Many Things
    • Wand of Many Things is an item that players will own and will be able to designate individuals in the world to apply a random cosmetic effect.
    • Examples:
      • Turn purple
      • Turn into a chicken
      • Grow a tail
    • Fun, flavorful item

Live Discord & Twitch Q&A

  1. To what extent can you avoid religion?

    • As far as you want to really
    • Religion is not enforced
    • A lot of the religion stuff is content based
      • Horizontal progression
      • Swapping out one ability for an augment abilities.
  2. Are we going to allow dual wielding?

    • Absolutely, any one handed weapons
    • No dual wielding shields
    • No requirement to do it, any class can pick it up
      • but won’t be effective on every class
  3. Can we please have squirrel pets?

    • Maybe not quite squirrels, but squirrel like pets.
  4. How do you feel about puzzles?

    • We love puzzles
    • As long as they aren’t repetitive
      • As long as they are actually challenging, meaningful, natural, and not enforced randomly.
  5. Lets talk Gunpowder?

    • Can’t see gunpowder being a thing in Ashes of Creation.
    • More magical things.
    • Guns don’t really fit.

    Nice write-up!
    The stream itself was a nice look into their every day activities. I know some people were upset that this stream wasn’t more substantial, but the new zone and boss concept art they put on screen shows us that they are steadily marching forward with progress on the game. Simple as that is, it makes me happy!

      Yeah, they are definitely making progress behind the scenes. The concept art alone for the bosses are unique and distinct to other MMORPGS bosses out there at least in my opinion. I’m excited about the Pax Prime announcement. I wish I could go 🙁
